We Believe That The Immersiveness of Virtual Reality (VR), If Leveraged Effectively And In An Interdisciplinary Way, Can Improve Education Outcomes In Even The Most Challenging School Districts.
Over 200 students in East Harlem have already participated in our immersive technology experiences that build their skills and enhance their learning capacity. Our goal is to develop VR education programming geared towards reaching 1000 students in New York City by Fall 2018.
The TechRow Fund team is made up of diverse, cross-sector experts in the fields of education, training, technology, marketing and community engagement. They embody our values and beliefs in building opportunity and equity in the world.
What We Are Doing
The TechRow Fund model is UNIQUE. No other organization is engaging low-income communities in Harlem and greater Northern Manhattan and leveraging the potential of immersive technology to impact their students’ academic outcomes.
We chose Harlem because it is home to some of the highest poverty rates and lowest education outcomes in New York City. Sitting in one of the largest cultural capitals of the world, we are committed to aiding our children to achieve their highest potential. Please help us in making your community stronger.
Techrow + Community partnerships + Professional Development + VR immersive curricula =Increased academic performance
Why It Matters
Preliminary research is starting to demonstrate how immersive technology like virtual reality can impact student learning and behaviour. Studies have reported increased student engagement and focus, knowledge construction, and enhanced classroom practices.
Research has also demonstrated that individuals remember 20% of what they hear, 30% of what they see, and up to 90% of what they do or simulate – the very experience delivered by immersive technology.
VR experiences can enhance the ability of students to connect with others and develop an understanding of their world views, it can create shared spaces that allow students to more effectively share ideas and information, and can eliminate language barriers by incorporating language translation in real time.
